Wolstein Hall

Iris S. and Bert L.Wolstein Hall, constructed in 1910, was the home for Cleveland industralist Washington S. Tyler and his wife, Marian Clark Tyler. Then situated near the campus of Mather College, the home was near to Clark Hall, a facility dedicated to the contributions of the Clark family and its long association with Case Western Reserve University. Clark Tower and Tyler House also memorialize these families.

The building served as Tyler's residence until the 1950s. Subsequently, the house was home to two different Case fraternities - Phi Kappa Tau and Sigma Chi. Phi Kappa Tau occupied the building through the early 1970s and Sigma Chi until 1995. Case assumed control of the building thereafter, and it was assigned to the Weatherhead undergraduate management programs in 2001.

Business has, for many years, been one of Case Western Reserve University's most popular undergraduate concentrations. The magnificently restored Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Hall serves as a learning support center for the Weatherhead School of Management's undergraduate student body. This superbly-appointed facility brings a sense of community to business majors by offering them a place to hold team meetings, study together, share ideas, start businesses and, of course, relax.

The Iris S. and Bert L.Wolstein Hall houses many vital functions including:

  • Program Administration: The essential function for student recruiting, counseling and course selection advice.
  • Career Advice: More than 300 declared majors and minors meet with their advisers to discuss career path options and access materials relevant to buiness careers.
  • Student Groups: The three undergraduate student groups (Beta Alpha Psi, Omicron Delta Epsilon and Alpha Kappa Psi) have office space with desks and computer resources to coordinate activities and host guest speakers.
  • Studying: Wolstein Hall has numerous study areas for Weatherhead undergraduates to use for group work or in quiet study.
  • Student Life: Many student-oriented social events, such as barbecues, will be occur at Wolstein Hall.
  • Class Instruction: Many SAGES seminars are held in Wolstein Hall.

[edit] About Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein

The Namesake for the Home of the Weatherhead’s Undergraduate Program

The late Bertram L. "Bert" Wolstein spent over fifty years in the commercial real estate development arena, becoming a recognized leader in his industry nationwide and in his community. Bart was founder and chairman emeritus of Developers Diversified Realty Corporation and founder and president of the Wolstein group and Heritage Development Company, a major developer and operator of shopping centers. Bart and his wife, Iris, were friends of Cleveland, as well as Case Western Reserve University. The Wolsteins have made significant donations to Case Western Reserve University including a $1 million gift to the Weatherhead School of Management to renovate a university building. The building is home to the Weatherhead School's undergraduate program and is named Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Hall in their honor.
