Ward 9 Issues

Case Western is located in Ward 9. Ward 9 encompasses University Circle, Little Italy, and Glenville. On the ballot this year are 2 local issues and the election for Ward 9's councilman. If you plan to vote in Cleveland this is where you will vote.

Local Issues:

The two issues on the ballot involve allowing the Superior Food Mart in Glenville to sell alcohol. The first issue involves alcohol sales during the week, the second involves sale on Sundays.

The candidates for councilperson are the incumbent, Kevin Conwell, who has been the Ward 9 councilman since 2001; and Gennorris Williams-Heard, a retired city worker. Conwell is the Chair of the Public Safety Committee, and Williams-Heard is Block President and wife of school board member Robert Heard. Conwell points to his record as the Public Safety Chair, mentioning his support of fatherhood and at-risk youth initiatives, and his push to institute a non-emergency calling system for city residents to call City Hall. Williams-Heard has focused mainly on education, saying more "one-on-one" interaction between Council members and school officials is necessary.

This is an editorial endorsement from the Plain Dealer for Councilman Kevin Conwell, so it is clearly biased: [1]
