Barbato is president of the Nord Family Foundation and an alumna of Flora Stone Mather College—the undergraduate women’s college of Western Reserve University—where she received her B.A. in history in 1972. She served on the college’s Visiting Committee from 2001–2004, and the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences’ Visiting Committee from 1999–2004. She also has served on the Case National Campaign Leadership Group and the college’s Campaign Committee.

In addition, Barbato has been a trustee of the Cleveland Museum of Art and a director of the Cleveland Opera and Vocational Guidance Services. She has been an active volunteer with the Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Museum of Art and Hawken School. She is a member of the current class of Leadership Cleveland.

Barbato’s husband, Randall, is a 1972 alumnus of Western Reserve College and 1991 alumnus of the Weatherhead School of Management. Her parents, Eric and Jane Nord, are both Case alumni and generous friends of the university. The Barbatos live in Shaker Heights with their three children.
