University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education

UCITE stands for the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education. Its prime mission is to work with faculty to improve our understanding of what learning is and how to use that understanding to create better learning environments for our students.

You can learn more about UCITE by going to UCITE's home page. Click on the "Events" link to find out about our programs.

The UCITE office is located in room 101, on the ground floor of the Allen Memorial Medical Library building, which is at the corner of Euclid and Adelbert streets. It is a truly magnificent building, built during a time when people seemed to see buildings as more than just functional entities. The high ceilings and chandelier lighting, the marble floors, the wide sweeping staircases, are all features that give those who work here a real sense of pleasure when walking in through the doors. This building has a wonderful history too. In it began the College of Women (1888), the School of Law (1892), and the School of Applied Social Sciences (1921). It currently houses the medical history library and also has the Dittrick Museum, which shows the evolution of medical practices over time and makes one glad to be living now, when those grim instruments of medicine are no longer used.

The views from the building are also panoramic, especially now that the Baker building (where UCITE used to be until 2003 and which was an ugly building) has been demolished. Looking out of the windows, one sees Severance Hall, Amasa Stone Chapel, Adelbert Hall, Kelvin Smith Library, and Wade Oval.
