Susie Gharib

Since 2001 Susie Gharib has been linking Case students with her colleagues on the frontlines of news reporting through the university’s Susie Gharib Distinguished Lectureship in Journalism. Gharib is co-anchor of the Nightly Business Report—the longest-running daily business news programs on television. The lectureship, which Gharib endowed with her husband, Fred Nazem, allows Case students to explore the field of journalism through public lectures and private classroom visits from prominent television and print journalists. In her professional life, Gharib has paved the way for women in the field of business and financial news reporting. The distinguished magna cum laude graduate from Case is one of the nation’s 100 most influential business journalists, according to the editors of The Journalist Financial Review. Her reporting has included interviews with Microsoft’s Bill Gates, General Electric’s Jack Welch, former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, Citigroup’s Sandy Weill as well as President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. Gharib’s work has garnered several awards, including the Gracie Allen Award as the top anchor of a national news program from the American Women in Radio and Television and the Front Page Award from the Newswoman’s Club of New York. Prior to joining PBS-TV, Gharib worked at NBC-TV, CNBC, ABC-TV, Fortune magazine and The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. She also earned a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University.
