The Spirit Wall / Expression Wall (tentative names) is a structure located behind Thwing Center. It was constructed during the week of August 28, 2006. The wall is freestanding and constructed of heavy wooden beams faced with smooth, white sheeting. It has two sides, one much longer than the other, which meet at a shallow angle.

Currently, the primary source of information regarding the wall (apart from direct observation) is a Case Forum post [1] by Joel Kraft, in which he speculates that the wall is intended to be painted by students for advertising and expression in a similar manner to the Spirit Rock. It is from this post that the name "Spirit Wall" was derived.

Also, in the USG General Assembly meeting on 5 September 2006, VP of Development Myles Nickolich stated that he learned from a construction worker that the wall is intended as a "graffiti wall" for students. Myles expressed his intent to further investigate the wall's purpose in the following week.

The Spirit Wall was first painted over the weekend of September 10th, 2006, apparently by members of Delta Gamma as an advertisement for an upcoming event, Anchor Splash.

[edit] Criticism

Some individuals who oppose the continued use of the Spirit Rock as a memorial to Doc Oc feel that the construction of the wall would not have been necessary if the Spirit Rock were used for its original purpose.

Alumnus James Chang criticized the wall in a Case Blog post on 4 September 2006: http://blog.case.edu/james.chang/2006/09/04/wall_of_expression
