3. Search for the desired tissue you want to see with the search box at top right.

[edit] Slide Navigation

1. This is what a slide looks like.

Image:Vm.slide.jpg

You can move around the slide by dragging the slide around. Just click, hold, and move the mouse.

Note the identifier information listed at the left regarding this slide -- tissue, disease (if any), source of image, etc.

If you ever want to get back to this slide, just save this web address in your notes (highlighted in the screenshot).

  • Note: If you use Internet Explorer and see a blank box instead of the slide, try clicking in the blank area to "Activate this control," wait a second, and the slide should pop up.

2. Notice the controls at top right.

The yellow box shows where you are in the slide. You can quickly navigate to an area in the slide by clicking on that area in this box. Click on the magnifying glasses to zoom in or out. To skip to a certain magnification, click on the drop-down box at top right and select your desired magnification. You can also change the slide's brightness by dragging the slider at bottom.

3. Notice the icons at the bottom.

These icons are your friends. They let you do some fun things, which we will go over now.

[edit] Expand slide

1. Click on the Expand slide icon.

Image:Vm.icons.jpg

2. The page will refresh without the left panel, so you have fullscreen view of your slide. With the left panel gone, the slide is no longer labeled with information regarding the slide (e.g. what tissue, what disease... good for quizzing yourself at what you're looking at).

If you ever want to get back to the expanded version of the slide, just save this web address in your notes (highlighted in the screenshot).

[edit] Save Image

Because VM slides are dynamic, you can't just right click to save them to your computer. Follow these instructions to save images as .jpg files to your computer.

1. Arrange the slide the way you want it to look (position, magnification, etc).

2. Click on the Snapshot icon.

Image:Vm.icons.jpg

3. A pop up window will come up with a static version of the slide, which you can save. Right click and select "Save Picture As" or "Save Image" (depending on browser) to save to your computer.

You can also make the static image bigger or smaller by changing the dimensions at top, then clicking [Preview].

[edit] Compare Slides

You can also compare two slides side by side.

1. While viewing the first slide, click on the Compare icon.

Image:Vm.icons.jpg

2. The page will refresh with thumbnails of all of the slides available to you, including all tissue, listed alphabetically. There are 67 pages of slides to choose from... way too many to wade through.

3. To narrow down the image list to the slide you want, click on the arrows at left to narrow down the search. I want to narrow my search down to other Tongue slides, so I clicked on "Tissue", then "Tongue". Now only Tongue thumbnails are displayed.

4. After you have found the slide you want, click on the tiny Scales icon located at the bottom right of each thumbnail. The result is a page with the two slides side by side:
