[edit] Case Medicine Intersociety Cup Competition

Current Point Tally:

Blackwell: 1 Satcher: 1 Wearn: 1 Robbins: 1

What's on the Cup Schedule?

What is it? The ISC Cup Competition consists of a series of competitive and non-competitive events that take place throughout the school year. Students participate as representatives of their academic societies, and are awarded points for their society based on their participation and/or performance. An updated point tally is kept throughout the year and is updated after each event. After the last event the society with the most points is the year's winner. The society dean is presented with the trophy and displays it prominently in their office, making sure to point it out to any and every visitor, especially the other deans.

What are the rules? How are the points decided? Please see the Points and Rules page.

When does the competition begin and end? The competition begins, in the sense that the point tally is reset to zero, at the beginning of Block 6 for the second years. This corresponds to the first years taking over the responsibility of running both the Intersociety Counsel (ISC) and the Intersociety Competition, which is run by the ISC Competition Committee. The competition then finishes, and the cup is awarded, some time before the end of Block 5 for the second years (in 2008, Block 5 ends October 31st). This schedule allows for a smooth handoff of the Competition between the first and second year classes, and gives some time for the second years to participate in the Competition before becoming first years.

What are the "regular events" of the Competition? The "regular events" are all the events of the Competition that are not one of the three "major events" (see below). Of the regular events, some will be competitions that involve students voting on things that were submitted by classmates, such as medical haikus. For these the voting typically ends on Fridays and the results are released the following Mondays. Other minor events will be live competitions, such as ping pong or thumb-wars. These events alternate between Wednesdays (the new Friday) and Fridays (the old Friday) at noon, and usually take place in one of the society lounges. Some rare events will take place at other times and places, such as CaseMed For Community Day, which in 2008 took place on Saturday morning. To learn how these events are scored see the Points and Rules page.

What are the "major events" of the Competition? There are three "major events" of the Intersociety competition. They are Doc Opera in the winter, Relay For Life in the Spring, and Intersociety Field Day in the Fall. Major points are on offer for these, the major events. For the first two events points are awarded for participation. The third, Field Day, consists of a variety of athletic and non-athletic competitions, and points are awarded for success in each competition. To learn how these events are scored see the Points and Rules page.

Who runs it? The Intersociety Cup Competition is run by four students who are officers of the Intersociety Counsel (ISC), and who make up the ISC Competition Committee. There is one member from each society. We are a fair and society-neutral committee, although we are not responsible for how lame all societies other than Blackwell are.

How do I find out about the events? The ISC Competition Committee sends out a weekly email each Monday with current the current point tally as well as details about upcoming events.

I have a great idea for a competition. Who do I talk to? Email all your great ideas to sih8@case.edu. Keep in mind that planning is key for the success of the Competition. Your idea, however awesome, may not work in the schedule. Another option is to run to represent your society in the ISC, and then run for the Competition Committee. Then you'll be in charge of everything!

Are there any societies that are particularly competitive with eachother? Sadly, yes, there is a rivalry. In 2007 the Robbins society gamed the last event of Intersociety Field Day, a baloon stomping competition that was never meant to count in the final results. Instead of accepting Blackwells dominance for the third year in a row they added these nefarious points into the tally, the results being that Robbins "won" the 2007 Intersociety Cup Competition. For the past year every glib Hanie reference to his society's dubious achievement intensifies the collective glare of the forever wronged Blackwell society. This historic slight shall forever embitter the two societies towards each other. By default, Wearn and Satcher are also bitter rivals.
