[edit] May 2008- Student Information System
The Case Student Information System is now the system of record, and the SOLAR application environment has been decomissioned.
The client used to register for classes. It is widely detested by the student population due to its clunky interface, poor performance, and the limit on the number of users who may access the system simultaneously.
Students on campus may now access SOLAR from the Nord Lab, 415 Nord Hall.
If you have difficulty downloading, installing, or running the Opal player plug-in, please contect the ITS Help Desk by phone at 216.368.4357.
[edit] Install Instructions
[edit] Windows
Note: If you are installing the plug-in on a computer with Windows 2000 or higher, you must install it into the user account you will be using rather than through the administrator account.
- If you have not already done so, click here for the Opal player plug-in for Windows. You may choose "Open" or "Run" to start the installation process.
- Follow the installation program's directions by accepting suggested defaults.
- Restart your browser.
- Login to SOLAR. The first time you run the Opal player, it may ask you to accept a certificate. You must accept this certificate in order to use SOLAR.
[edit] Using Opal player in a lab environment
In a lab environment, its often neccessary to run the Opal player without administrative privledges. The following steps were devised by Tom Franchina at MSASS back in 2003:
- Install the client as an administrator.
- Also as an administrator visit the Case solar website once and load SOLAR all the way until you get the to login screen (note it is not necessary to actually log in). You will at some point be asked to install a "client" to make Opal work, this is actually a certificate and it requires administrative privileges to install.
- Open the registry editor and go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Computer Associates] Right click and go to permissions. Give full control to everyone for this key.
- Log in as a generic user to test to see if Opal can load. If you can get all the way to the login screen without an error message you should be okay.
