Project Club
The Case Project Club provides Case students from all over the University with a place where they can complete all sorts of personal projects. Headquartered in Olin 101 (on the 1st floor), the Project Club is stocked with many tools and useful pieces of equipment to aid in the completion of projects. There are some club-owned project ingredients, and storage space is available for projects in progress.

[edit] How to get involved
If you have an idea for a project or want to get involved, you are invited to join the Project Club mailing list or stop by the lab. There is often someone there who can answer your questions. Project Club also has a Facebook group.
The Project Club sometimes holds meetings. For the Spring 2009 semester, they are Mondays at 6:00 pm. It's best to monitor the mailing list for the most up-to-date schedule, though.
[edit] What's available in the lab
[edit] Computing
Most of the computers in the lab run Ubuntu Linux. There are several machines (including an older laptop) available for general purpose use; the club also has a collection of computer components which members may repair and use for projects. There is a Sun Ray thin client (like the ones in Olin 404.5) which may be used by members who have EECS Unix accounts. There are two server racks in the lab; members may set up personal servers subject to the availability of rack space and Ethernet ports.
[edit] Library
The club has a modest technical library which may be used for reference. Members may borrow books subject to the same policy that applies to the borrowing of tools.
[edit] Electronics
The lab has a reasonably well equipped electronics workbench. Soldering equipment and supplies are available. Test equipment includes a Tektronix digital storage oscilloscope, HP logic analyzer, function generator, pulse generator, bench multimeter, etc. There is also an assortment of DC power supplies in varying states of repair. Basic electronic components (passives, transistors, op amps, ...) are available.
[edit] Mechanical fabrication
There is also a mechanical workbench and a collection of tools for woodworking and metalworking. Most of the basic hand tools are available. Power tools include drills, a jigsaw, and a circular saw. There is an air compressor and a few air-operated tools (air ratchet, impact wrench, sheet metal nibbler). The club has a Sieg X2 mini-mill and a 7x12 mini-lathe for small-scale machining. In addition to the tools, there is also a variety of fasteners and other small parts which may be useful for assembling projects.
[edit] Project ingredients
Over the years the club has collected a wide variety of salvaged parts, materials, and components which are available for members to use in projects. Basic items are 'free to a good home' but rare or valuable items should be returned.
[edit] Club-sponsored projects
In general the club does not sponsor projects. Exceptions to this policy normally involve the repair, restoration, or improvement of club-owned items. (Typically this would be computers or electronic test equipment, but occasionally we get something a bit more unusual such as a Westinghouse HARE mobile robot.)
[edit] Webcam
There are two webcams in the lab; the URL is http://projectcam.case.edu/.
[edit] Policies
The most important Project Club policies are:
- Be safety-conscious
- Respect the fact that the lab is shared by all members of the club
- Don't disturb other members' projects
- Leave the lab tidy so it is useful to others
- Books and portable tools may be borrowed, but leave a note, and return the item promptly
- Personal items stored in the lab should be labeled with a contact email address
[edit] Current Officers
Dan Bloomberg, Steffen Vinding Nyden, Joe Recht.
Advisers: Frank Merat and Edwin Burwell.
