Observatory
The 9 1/2 inch refractor is located on top of the A.W. Smith building. It is available to all faculty, staff and students of CWRU. Before using the telescope, persons must contact Charley Knox ( knox@grendel.astr.cwru.edu ) to schedule an appointment to receive instructions on telescope operation and procedures. Following the orientation procedure, interested persons sign up for nights on the calendar located in the astronomy department (near the mailboxes). (from [1] )
The observatory is used almost entirely by students and faculty for "recreational astronomy" - that is, no real scientific research is being actively done with it. Being in Cleveland does severely dampen the astronomical potential of the sky, but with a little creativity one can still have a really fun time on the telescope.
