MSASS/Community and Social Development Curriculum/Community and Social Development Perspectives
This is a couse offered @ MSASS in the CSD concentration.
This is both a theory and policy course that provides the student with an overview of the community and social development field. The student should be able to understand the history of community and social development in the US and abroad, theoretical and empirical underpinnings of this work, major approaches, institutions and public policy related to community and social development. Content should include traditional knowledge as well as paradigm shifts in development practice. The student should have an understanding that the concentration is driven by universalistic human aspirations of community building. Moreover, a focus will be placed on understanding and analyzing community power, and the relationship between community and regional power structures. The history of institutional involvement in community and social development (e.g. World Bank, United Nations, Banking Industry, Intermediaries, etc.) will be traced as well as the policies that affect community and social development.
