MSASS/Community and Social Development Curriculum/CSD PRACTICE II. Strategies for Designing and Implementing Community and Social Change
This is a couse offered @ MSASS in the CSD concentration.
This is a theory and practice course. Students will learn about the design and implementation of community development in the U.S. and internationally. CSD Practice II builds on and incorporates the social process skills learned in CSD Practice I. Content will include neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, workforce development, business development, cooperatives, micro-enterprise, and other models of development that originated internationally and have been adapted in the United States. Attention will be to given globalization and the cultural and economic context—whether in disadvantaged communities in the U.S. or in the developing world—and to the skills that foster cultural competence. Students will practice the skills necessary for mobilizing human capital, designing community and social change, revitalizing neighborhoods, promoting productive employment, and affecting social policy. Students will learn to apply these change strategies in ways that promote sustainable development and social justice in both this country and around the world.
