Graduate Student Senate/Strategic Plan/Goals, Objectives, and Strategies

[edit] How does GSS extend the mission of SGS?

Goal:

  • To foster a sense of connection among graduate students in all graduate programs.
  • Have a graduate student services fair, which facilitates a day where each organization can set up a booth that would let the graduate student, know about the resources that are on campus. The fair would be for graduate students to know about all the graduate student organizations and also businesses and services that cater to graduate student issues like housing and health care, transportation, international student services etc. This also could include entertainment and food.
  • The GSS should also actively seek to develop new partnerships with organizations and businesses that would benefit the graduate student population.
  • Facilitate on campus seminars in getting to know the area for people who are not from NE OHIO featuring speakers from the various attractions, museums, that the students have access to for free along with other area venues.
  • Activities can be schedules at the beginning and end of the semester as a way for graduate students from multiple disciplines would be able to interact with each other. These activities can consist of on campus events or off campus events. In the event that there is an off campus outing, bus transportation should be provided to encourage more participation from people not from the area or do not have their own transportation.
  • Have a graduate student “Olympics” with competitors from each department compete in traditional athletic and fun creative events.
  • In the desire for GSS to represent an informed consensus of graduate student opinions, surveys that could be distributed by each department GSS rep to gain feedback on various issues concerning graduate students. The surveys can be given towards the middle or end of the semester. These surveys also could be distributed through an e-newsletter.
  • Graduate students should have the opportunity to submit ideas or articles for a graduate student newsletter that would be available in print and electronically.(Maureen G)
