[edit] Google Apps for Case Western Reserve University
Information Technology Services has teamed up with Google to offer Google Apps for Case Western Reserve University, a new collaboration suite of services that includes a web start page, mail, calendar, instant messaging, shared documents, and sites (similar to a wiki) for the University.
See the Google Apps FAQ for more information or visit the provisioning page to activate your case.edu Google Apps account.
[edit] Web access to Email
We recommend Google Apps for those who use a web browser to view their email. The current Case email service offers a web interface (http://mail.case.edu) and a 200 MB mailbox; the Google Apps email service offers a newer web interface, access to the other suite services, and a 6+ GB mailbox - much larger than the current Case web mailbox.
To route your Case Email to Google Apps webmail, go to the provisioning page, click the appropriate button, and SAVE.
After you have changed the routing for your Case email, to set up your new Google Apps mailbox go directly to your Google Apps mail account at https://mail.google.com/a/case.edu/. You will first be directed to the Case Single Sign-on Page, where you enter your Case User ID and password before going to your Google Apps mailbox.
This discussion of Security Considerations provides guidance for ensuring SSL (secure sockets layer) access to GoogleApps.
[edit] POP3 access to Email using a client program
If you want to use an email program such as Outlook, Eudora, or Thunderbird for your POP3 account, you need to set up a separate password, as the Case Single Sign-on is not used for POP3 mailboxes.
After clicking the appropriate button to route your Case Email to Google Apps, you also need to create a POP3 password. This password should not be the same as your Case password. Please use a robust password (minimum of 8 characters, upper and lower case, and a number).
[edit] IMAP access to Email using a client program
For IMAP users Google provides options for those who use an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird. Go to http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=75726 for more information.
