Freedman Center/Video Calls and Conferencing with Skype

  1. Check out a SecuriKey™ and digital headset.
  2. Plug the key into the port at top of the keyboard to unlock the computer.
  3. No password is required; simply press Enter.
  4. Plug the digital headset’s cord into the port on the left side of the monitor.


If it’s your first time using Skype:

  1. Open the Skype software located in the Instant Messaging Folder on the desktop.

  2. Click ‘Don’t have a Skype Name?’

  3. Create a Skype account. Follow the steps, then click ‘Sign in.’
Note: Choose a username (called a “Skype Name”) and password that you're able to remember so that you can sign in again next time. You will need a valid email address.
If you’ve already set up a Skype account:
  1. Open the Skype software located in the Instant Messaging Folder on the desktop.
  2. Type in your username and password under ‘Skype Name’ and ‘Password’ respectively, then click ‘Sign in.’
To find and call someone who’s on Skype:
  1. Click on the Directory tab, located on the left. You are able to search by name, username, or email address to find the person you’d like to contact. Click ‘Search.’

  2. Select the correct contact, then click ‘Add Contact.’

  3. Write a short introduction message so they know who you are. Click ‘Send.’

  4. Once they have accepted your invitation, you’ll be able to see that they are online. (There is no charge to contact anyone if there is any one of these icons next to their Skype Name: Image:SkypeStatus_icons.png‎)
  5. Select the Skype Name that you’d like to call from your Contacts. Click the green ‘Call’ button or, if you have a webcam plugged in, click the green ‘Video call’ button to make a video call.

  6. To hang up, click the red ‘End’ call button.
