Freedman Center/Using the Language Bar
English is the default input language on all Freedman Center workstations. (The input language is the language in which the computer expects that you'll be typing.) You can easily change the input language using the Language Bar.
[edit] Selecting a Language from the Language Bar
- Find the Language Bar, which is located in the right hand portion of the task bar appearing at the bottom of your monitor. The language is indicated by two letters, which will likely be EN for English, as seen in the image below.
- Move your mouse over the language currently selected (e.g., EN), and click the mouse. You will then see a number of different languages to choose from. If you see the language you wish to work with, click on it, and you're finished! If you do not see your language, you will need to add the language from the control panel by the following the instructions below.
[edit] Adding a Language to the Language Bar
- Under the Start menu, go to Settings > Control Panel. This will open up a new window.
- In the Control Panel window, doubleclick the globe icon to open up Regional and Language Options.
- Then go to the Languages tab and click on the Details button.
- Under the Settings tab, click on the Add... button.
- This will open up another dialog box called Add Input Language. Under Input Language, click to expand the drop down list of languages.
- Select the language you wish to add, such as Greek, as seen in the example image.
- Click ok to close the Add Input Language box, and then click first APPLY and then OK where indicated to close out of all dialog boxes in Regional and Language Options.
- Follow the instructions for selecting a language from the Language Bar above. You should see the language you just added!
