[edit] Multiple pages and unbound document scanning



1. Check out a SecuriKey™ and plug it into the port at top of the keyboard to unlock the computer.

2. No password is required; simply press Enter.

3. Create yourself a folder in the My Documents folder and label it with your network ID.

4. Turn on the Sidekick™ 1400 document scanner.

5. Insert the document face up, lifting the blue lever on top of the scanner and placing the document underneath it.

Note:
The document to be scanned must not contain any paper clips or staples.
Do not insert more than 30 pages at one time.
Adjust the form-feed spacers on either side of the document stack.
Pull out the trays.

6. Open the Adobe Acrobat Pro software, located in the Scanning Software Folder on the desktop.

7. Click on the Create icon located near the upper left corner of the program. Choose PDF from Scanner > Custom Scan

8. Verify the following settings:

o Sides > choose single or double sided pages

o Color Mode > select option to Black and White

Use grayscale only if you need to scan images, but note that this makes the pages themselves gray and inconvenient for printing

o Resolution > 300 dpi

Note: Deselect the OCR box only if the document doesn’t have searchable text (makes the scanning faster)

If an error message is displayed after clicking the scan button, close out of the program and repeat the process

If the paper jams, ask a staff person for assistance

9. Click Scan

10. If this error message pops up, select OK and repeat steps number 7 and 9.

Note: The options you selected should not have changed.

11. After all pages have been scanned, if you are finished select Scan is Complete. If you had selected to scan both sides of your document, flip the stack over and feed it back into the scanner before selecting the Scan Reverse sides option.

12. Once the scanning is complete, rename the file and save it in your My Documents folder.
