[edit] The Anatomy and Operation of the Flip
- The Flip can be powered on using this button on the side. The first time you turn it on, it will ask you to set the date and time. Do this using the 4 directional buttons surrounding the large red button.
- To record, simply press the large red button.
- Zooming in and out is done with the + and - buttons above and below the giant red button.
- When you're finished recording, press the red button again to stop recording.
- You can play back the videos you've taken (with sound!) by pressing the Play button (labeled a) just below the viewing screen and to the left.
- You can erase any unwanted videos using the Trash Can button (labeled b).
[edit] Getting Your Videos onto a Computer
- You can plug the Flip directly into a computer using the flip-out USB connector. The camera will appear just like a flash drive.
- The videos will be in a folder called DCIM and be copied off of the Flip.
- If the videos do not play, you may need to install compatibility software:
- Open the Flip as if it were a flash drive.
- Double-click the 'System' folder.
- Double-click the 'INSTALL' folder.
- Double-click the 'Windows 3ivx Installer' icon in that folder. This will launch the installer for the video compatibility software (a.k.a. 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 Decoder for Windows) that you need to play back your videos. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
- For more information, see the readme.txt file on the Flip.
