Footlighters

The Case Footlighters is a completely student-run group dedicated to promoting musical theater at Case Western Reserve University, The Cleveland Institute of Art, and The Cleveland Institute of Music. It began in the Spring of 1998, when a small group of students, disappointed at the absence of musical theater opportunities on campus, decided to produce The Pirates of Penzance. The group produces one show each semester, for which students fulfill all the necessary roles--both on and off the stage.

Footlighters gives students an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of theater production including; directing, choreographing, acting, playing in the pit orchestra, lighting and engineering the show, constructing sets, making costumes, and publicizing the performances: every aspect of the musical is done by a student. Each semester, nearly 1000 students, faculty, staff and community members come together to watch Footlighters take the stage!

In the past, performances have taken place in Harkness Chapel, The Spot, Carlton Commons and Ford Auditorium, but more recently the group has staged its productions alternating between Carlton Commons and the Thwing Ballroom.

In the Spring of 2008, Footlighters celebrated their 10th Anniversary with a production of Chicago. Founding members and alumni of the group were invited to attend and some were able to make the performance.

For the 2008-2009 school year, Alana Sealy is the president, Brad Hughes is the Vice President, Janette Siu is the Treasurer, Shauna Gerstenberger is the Secretary, and Chad Fusco is in charge of Public Relations.
