Department of Theater and Dance

Housed in historic Eldred Hall, with some professors having offices in Clark Hall, the Department of Theater and Dance serves approximately forty undergraduate majors along with a smaller number of graduate students. The department is one of the oldest undergraduate theater programs in the United States. The graduate program in theater is gaining recognition nationally thanks in part to the close relationship with the Cleveland Play House, where graduate students now spend all three years of their education in residence. Undergraduates are active in the four mainstage productions per school year, along with student groups such as the Players' Theatre Group, IMPROVment, and Footlighters - though the last is advised by a faculty member in the Department of Music.

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theater with concentrations in Acting, Design/Tech, Directing, Dramatic Writing, General Theater, and Theater and Society. It also has a Bachlelor of Arts with a concentration in Dance. On the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Fine Arts in Theater (Acting), and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance.

The current department chair is Ron Wilson, Katharine Bakeless Nason Professor of Theater.
