[edit] EXCITING COURSES IN ART HISTORY
In Fall 2006 the Department of Art History and Art will offer many brand new courses that we think will be very attractive to students. We also want to remind students that if a course seems interesting, you should take it. Art History is very different from, say, Chemistry, with its rigid sequence of courses and prerequisites. If you don’t know much about, for example, Chinese art (why should you? You certainly didn’t learn about this in high school!), you can certainly take a course in this, and do well. You will find that most of the other students don’t know any more than you do. Some of our courses will bring you into contact with actual works of art in the Cleveland Museum, e.g., paintings from medieval Italy or masks from traditional cultures in Africa. For those of you who are less interested in history than in what is happening today, the department is also offering courses in contemporary art. In fact, we think there is something for everyone!
