[edit] President
Dear fellow CPSC members,
It is my intent to run for re-election to the position of President of Cleveland Public Schools Connection. As current President and one of the founders, I have watched as this group grew from an idea into reality over the past two semesters (with the hard work of our members, Exec Board, and affiliates). By the end of this semester, we will have made approximately 10 trips to our school site, Buhrer, and have offered six groups for Case and middle school students to participate in (Theatre Arts, Martial Arts, Cooking, Singing/Rapping/Poetry, Dancing/Choreography, and Science Experiments). I have also been instrumental in establishing relationships with CCEL (The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning- A Case Department), as well as with officials at our school site, Buhrer.
As one of the co-founders of CPSC, I strongly believe in the vision and mission of this group. Regardless of what campus recognition we receive, CPSC provides a valuable service to Case students and children in Cleveland public schools. If I am re-elected, I will continue to work hard to make CPSC even better, reaching out to more schools and students in an efficient manner. CPSC is a wonderful organization that truly benefits both the Case campus and the Cleveland community, and I would like to continue to be a part of that process.
Best Wishes,
Ashley Solomon President and Co-Founder
[edit] Vice President
I, Elliot Pohlmann, would like to announce my intention to run for the position of Vice President for the Cleveland Public Schools Connection in the spring 2007 election. I feel that I have all of the necessary qualities that this organization embodies and would well serve the organization as its Vice President. I believe that, as a member of the executive committee, I would better be able to influence the policies of the organization and change them to further the organization’s ability to carry out its goals. In the first place, I believe that the CPSC needs a better public relations campaign. Fliers in the dining halls create a small initial turnout, but I believe that there are better solutions to the low membership, such as possibly coordinating through fraternities and sororities, both of which need service hours. Even a single seminar by college students would benefit the children of Buhrer Middle School, and I believe that the students at Case Western Reserve Uni versity need to better understand that. Also, I think that the faculty members that we interact with at the university need to better understand what we are and what our goals are because, as the misperceptions this year bear witness to, nobody except those involved within the organization truly understands our goals.
I recognize that this past year was a trial period for the organization and that many of its functions were still in the developmental stages as the year progressed. However, I believe that, as Vice President, I can bring the aforementioned changes to the CPSC and better the organization. I do plan to continue my personal seminar, martial arts, throughout the end of this semester and next year as well, as there seems to be a lot of interest and the children seem to enjoy my visits.
Thank you for your consideration.
Elliot S. Pohlmann
[edit] Treasurer
I am writing this to announce my intent to run for Treasurer of CPSC. I am currently a second year junior Accounting major here at CWRU. The position of Treasurer has a lot to do with money; as an Accounting major, I believe that I can contribute a great deal to CPSC in this regard. I have a strong background in finance, and I am very detail oriented. I feel that these skills would prove invaluable in creating a budget, and handling monetary issues for CPSC.
I believe that the vision of CPSC is a good one. People living in some areas of Cleveland are offered few opportunities. We, as Case students, have more opportunities now than some people get in their entire lives. CPSC provides Case students with an opportunity to give back to their community. I feel that, as CPSC Treasurer, I can help CPSC attain their short term goals, and grow as an organization in the future.
Thank you for your time,
Jeff German-Lortie
[edit] Secretary
To all members of CPSC,
My name is Paige Smith, I am expressing my intent to run for secretary of the CPSC group. I was secretary last year, and have been able to see this group grow into what it has become. There have been many ups and downs, yet having the secretary position last year, I was able to help, first hand in contributing to the shape of the group. I've been in many secretary positions through my academic life, and have enjoyed the many different aspects of the secretarial job. I hope my previous experience and willingness to serve, will be an added asset to the group. Please consider me for secretary!
Thank you,
Paige Smith
