Contents

[edit] Summary

Project Name: Cleveland 2.0
Project Status: Initiation aka Proposed
Project Sponsor: Lev Gonick
Project Manager: Lev Gonick
Project Team: David Ungar, Lora Veselsky
Project Priority: 4 (on a scale of 1-5 where 5 is highest)
Requested by: Lev Gonick
Project Description: Create a Wiki based platform for places, organizations, and events to be easily accessible to the Cleveland area, primarily through Google Maps.

[edit] Charter

Business reason for the project - how does this support the business needs? What is the relationship to Strategic Planning Themes? The primary audience is the management team. This is used to determine whether or not to move forward. Can include feasibility study or business case.

Demonstrate Web 2.0 application that brings value to the Cleveland community.

[edit] Purpose

[edit] Needs

[edit] Scope

  1. Administrators include TBD individuals in ITS.
  2. Contributors include business owners, planners, event organizers. Anyone can create an article at anytime without moderation.
  3. Viewers include Cleveland (and surrounding area) residents and visitors.
  4. Moderators - Launch without moderators.

[edit] Goals

Measurable outcomes:

  1. Contributors can create markers for events.
  2. Viewers can view events.

[edit] Objectives

Minimal administration.

  1. use captchas to reduce abuse by automated posting.
  2. plan for moderators to reduce abuse.

[edit] Deliverables

[edit] Estimates

Include Time, Cost, and Resources.

  1. Evaluate hosting internally versus hosting externally. No suitable internal shared hosting service available. External shared hosting is more cost effective than internal dedicated server.
  2. Preferred hostname: cleveland2.case.edu. How about events.cleveland20.org?
  3. Equipment requirements
    1. 1 GB database
    2. 1 GB local file storage for application
    3. shell access
    4. authority to install MediaWiki
  4. If hosting internally, requirements can be met by:
    1. a virtual machine running RHEL AS 4.0 with a connection to an Oracle shared instance.
    2. Deploy inside data center firewall.
  5. Firewall rules
    1. allow http, https from all
    2. allow ssh from Case (need to allow David to ssh and sftp from his dorm room - do we allow access from student.case.edu?)
    3. allow Google API ports to Google (this should be handled by default allow outgoint to all).
    4. allow Oracle ports to database servers (this should be handled by default allow outgoint to all).

[edit] Plan

  1. Release prototype to Lev.
  2. Release revised prototype to Cleveland 2.0 group.
  3. Release revision to wider audience.

[edit] Requirements

Require:

  1. shared hosting
  2. executing PHP
  3. accessing a SQL database. Could be Oracle.
  4. Media Wiki

Can this be satisfied by creating an Oracle database and a connection available to the Case Wiki? No, because editing the Case Wiki is limited to Case affiliates.
