[edit] On Campus
- Kelvin Smith Library
- Address: 11055 Euclid Avenue Map
- Hours: Open 24 hours with student ID during the fall and spring semesters; See website.
- This is the largest, and most modern library on campus. The third floor is has a very large quiet study room with wireless access tables and small group rooms. There are study carrels tucked away throughout the rest of the library and very comfy leather chairs and couches all over as well -- a serious napping hazard. Each lounge chair, table or carrel is equipped with a power plug. Hours are good, but get cut back during university breaks and the summer, which don’t always match with ours. Updated hours are always posted on the library website. KSL is now open 24 hours for studying with a student ID.
- Law School Library
- Address: 11075 East Blvd. Map
- Hours: See Website
- This library keeps the best hours and is very quiet. The top floor is almost exclusively tables and study carrels, so it’s the best place to go when you need to study after the other libraries close. It is rumored that you are supposed to have a law school ID to get in, but the strictness of this policy is debated.
- Health Sciences Library
- Allen Medical Library Website
- Address: 2109 Adelbert Road Map
- Hours: See Website
- If you want to study somewhere that will really make you feel like a medical scholar this is the place. The library is small and very old but the study room is awesome. It doubles as a display room for pictures of influential Case Med grads and old medical equipment. There are long lamp-dotted wooden tables matching the wood paneled walls and floors covered with oriental rugs. Floor to ceiling windows offer good light during the day, but at night light isn’t that great. If you have some time to spare, wander into the stacks and you’ll find books over a century old. The hours aren’t great, but the atmosphere is definitely classy.

[edit] Transportation
Much of this information has been taken from the Case Western Admissions Website. Note that the directions given are to go to the School of Medicine. Perhaps someone from one of the other professional schools can add the details to get there.
- Additional information about lodging can be found here: http://www.case.edu/visit/lodging.html
[edit] By Air
Airport: Cleveland Hopikins Airport (CLE) Website: http://www.clevelandairport.com
Directions from Airport: The easiest, simplest and least expensive way of getting to the campus is to take the RTA Rapid Transit train from the Cleveland Hopkins Airport to the University Campus. Board the Rapid at the airport (heading East) and ride to the UNIVERSITY CIRCLE stop. After departing the train, turn right, follow the Case sign through the doors and down the steps, and go to the end of the tunnel. Proceed through turnstiles, turn left, go up the steps to the University Circle bus shelter. Free shuttle busses (marked UCI or CIRCLELINK) run every 15 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to all areas of the campus. Ask the driver to let you off at the School of Medicine. To the Medical School Building
[edit] By Bus
- Website: http://www.greyhound.com
The Greyhound Bus Depot is located downtown on Chester Avenue near E. 14th Street. Cabs are available or you can walk one block south on E. 14th to Euclid Avenue. There you can catch an eastbound RTA bus (#9 or #6) to the campus. Get off at Adelbert Road and walk along Adelbert Road until you see a sign directing visitors to the School of Medicine along a walkway between Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital and the School of Medicine. To the Medical School Building
[edit] By Train
- Website: http://www.amtrak.com
Arrive Amtrak Station, take cab to Public Square. Take eastbound bus #9 or #6 eastbound to the campus. Read directions in paragraph above for instructions to the School.
[edit] By Car
The University is located about 4 miles directly east of downtown Cleveland on Euclid Avenue (U.S. routes 6 and 20). Most road maps of Ohio have the University clearly marked.
To Medical School: Visitors access to the School of Medicine is limited. You will walk from the parking garage along Adelbert Road until you see a sign directing visitors to the School of Medicine along a walkway between Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital and the School of Medicine. At the end of the walkway, and clearly visible from most of the campus, is the clock tower of the red-brick Biomedical Research Building. You will enter the School of Medicine through this building and register at the security desk, staffed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The security guard will have your name on a list of expected visitors. If there is any problem, have the guard call the Admissions Office, ext. 3450. We are in room T308, to which the security guard will give you directions.
[edit] Parking
- For current students seeking parking, contact Access Services
- Website
- Phone: 216-368-2724
- Lot 53/Veale parking lot - Best for Medical School Visit
- Roughly $8 per day
- Free parking is available on Overlook Rd, but then you will have to walk up and down Edgehill hill. Sometimes this area can get quite crowded. You can try to park for free on Random Rd in Little Italy but if you get caught it is a $25 fine (think of all the beers you can buy with that). There is a parking garage located on Random Rd with a $5 fee/ day. Parking on campus can get a little pricey (closer ones are about $63-90) but worth it if you already have to drive a long commute. Better yet move closer to campus, gas is not affordable on the stipend.

[edit] Public Transit
[edit] Services Around Campus
- 821 Community Circulator
- Cost: $0.75
- Schedule: Check Website
- This is the most convenient transportation to campus. It travels between Shaker Square, University Circle and Coventry. The cost is 80 cents and bus schedules can be found on their website.
[edit] The Greenies
- Website
- Runs between North and South campus, up the hill, to Cedar-Fairmount and to Coventry. 5:15 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Buses run continuously and arrive approximately every 20 minutes. Be sure to get on the right shuttle - either North or South. If the sign on the front does not specify, then ask the driver if they are going North or South. Fribley commons is a popular spot to wait for the bus.
- The “greenies” aren’t green anymore, as they were when their nickname developed, but this is a free and very convenient way to get around campus. These campus shuttles travel around University Circle through the major museums and campus buildings. It also gets you to the VA, but you have to get the drive to tell you where to get off, since they no longer have an official stop there. There is also an evening shuttle that goes back and forth to Coventry. You may have to wait awhile for a bus because the Greenies don’t have a set schedule: they get to their stops when they get to them. Access Service’s website has detailed routes and information.
- Greenies - Circle Link
- Cost: Free
- Schedule: Service runs every 23 minutes from 6:15AM to 5:30PM Monday through Saturday and Noon to 5:30PM on Sunday. (Every 30 minutes on the weekend.)
- Click on link in title to see map.
- Greenies - Evening Shuttle
- Cost: Free
- Schedule: (click on link in title for map)
- Summer Schedule: Beginning May 15th the Evening Shuttle will have one bus running the entire North/South route. Also the Friday and Saturday service will end at 12:30AM.
- Both routes run continuously from 5:15 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5:15 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The north campus buses arrive at designated stops approximately every 20 minutes. The south campus buses arrive approximately every 20 minutes.
- Weather and traffic conditions may adversely affect the schedule. Service for both routes is reduced during school breaks on holidays and during the summer. There is no service on University holidays for Christmas or New Years.
- Greenies - Commuter Shuttle
- Cost: Free
- Schedule: This route provides service approximately every 15 minutes from 6:00AM to 9:00PM on weekdays, but not on major holidays. Holidays may vary.
- Commuter Shuttle from Parking Lot 46.
- Greenies - UCRC
- Cost: Free
- Schedule: Service is provided every 20 minutes from 6:15AM-7:00PM weekdays, but not on major holidays
- This route provides shuttle service to Case Service Center, University West Building, the UCRC Building (County Coroner), W.O. Walker Center and Crawford Hall from Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. Stops are made on an on-call basis for Ronald McDonald House. Weather, traffic conditions, and stops at Ronald McDonald House may affect the schedule. Some, but not all, of the buses are wheelchair accessible.
[edit] Services Around Cleveland
- The Rapid
- Website
- Cost for RTA/buses: $2.25
- Cost for Loop/Circulator: $1.50
- The Rapid in Cleveland is not as widely used as subway/transit systems in many larger cities, but it can get you to areas that are inconvenient to reach by car, such as the airport or downtown spots. The rapid line Case sits along goes directly to the airport via Tower city so it is a great way to get to Indians, Browns and Cavaliers games as well as the Rock Hall, Flats and West Side Market, although you will have to transfer to other lines for some of these locations. It is a convenient way to get to the airport, if you can’t find a fellow student to drive you there. Have exact change because there isn’t always someone manning the entrance to make change for you. As far as safety, traveling alone late at night would not be a good idea, especially for women, but during the day it’s no problem.
