CWRU Bibliographic Committee/Charge

CWRU Bibliographic Committee
Charge/Library Directors
July 2006

The Bibliographic committee will serve as a forum to discuss and coordinate the development of cataloging and metadata endeavors in a dynamic and changing environment. Issues would include the continued development of OCLC and any other EuclidPLUS database concerns.

The Committee will meet on a regular basis to discuss electronic catalog resources and to carry out tasks related to its charge.

Specifically, the Committee will address the following:

  • Promote quality in the existing MARC environment, through authority control and record enrichment
  • Develop a policy/procedures manual of guidelines for cataloging electronic resources, including how to classify and handle various formats
  • Develop metadata standards for the emerging digital library
  • Develop and implement a program to maximize the utility of EuclidPLUS bibliographic access
  • Developing policies and procedures linking to valuable information resources
  • Assure the thorough evaluation of developing systems and access the impact of any new updates and potential developments
  • Aggressively design educational programs for staff development to learn the newest developments in these areas

Membership: Committee members are any interested librarians who are responsible for bibliographic access issues. These should be individuals who work with catalog/database issues daily. There should be at least one representative from each campus library.

Responsibilities: Communicate committee agendas and reports to Directors’ committee. The Committee should also communicate information and provide information to other library staff colleagues, especially the Roundtable.
