Barking Spider
The Barking Spider is a small hole-in-the-wall bar located behind Arabica. The bar is located in a converted carriage house at 41.51147° N, 81.60672° W (11310 Juniper Road, 216.421.2863, Credit Cards Not Accepted, Handicap Accessible).
Featuring live music every night, the Barking Spider caters to a diverse crowd. It is not unusual to find professors, carpenters, students, lawyers, artists, etc. engaged in lively discussion on topics outside each of their given fields. The fact that they serve only beer and wine, rather than hard liquor, helps to keep away the rowdier heavy drinking types, but in no way detracts from the fun. As the bar has no kitchen, patrons are allowed to bring in pizza and other food from outside.
A corner fireplace keeps patrons warm in winter while the outdoor picnic tables provide the perfect after school/work respite during summer.
Diversity of clientele in terms of race, occupation, religion, sexual preference, political preference, etc. is one of the Spider's strongpoints. It is quite common for one Spider table to include atheists, Mormons, Hindus, Jews, and Christians in a variety of skintones, from a multitude of countries, with a plethora of hobbies, careers and interests. Additionally it is common for Case faculty and staff to make connections and share ideas with colleagues from other schools or departments within the university.
